In today’s class, we had guest speaker, Rich McCue come in and talk about creating videos for education. I haven’t used software like iMovie in a pretty long time so I was excited to try it again, and learn about some new technologies as well.

How I can Use Technology in The Classroom

I think using video as a tool to support learners and learning in your classroom can be highly effective and engaging. In class we learnt of a bunch of cool ways to do it! We learnt about using instructional videos that cover key concepts or skills. These videos can serve as introductions to new topics, providing visual and auditory explanations that can complement the original teaching. For example if you were teaching chemistry and wanted to demonstrate a reaction occurring you could pop up a video to show it. Here’s a cool video I found of someone doing an elephant toothpaste reaction.

Another cool thing you could do is take your students on virtual field trips to explore different cultures, ecosystems, historical sites. This would be a super beneficial tool when teaching about world cultures, or different biomes in biology. You can use pre-recorded or live-streamed videos to provide immersive experiences that enhance understanding and spark your students curiosity. National Geographic has a bunch of these, similar to the one I will link below

You can also use video for self assessment. This is something I have used for my free inquiry. Me and my friend Josh often workout together and recently I noticed one of his elbows was sinking when he was dumbbell pressing but he couldn’t feel it. So to show him I took this video of him to help him correct his form.

By using the power of video in your classroom, you can enhance engagement, promote deeper understanding, and provide diverse learning opportunities that cater to the needs and preferences of your students!
